Ways to detox & Weight Loss for busy professionals
As an executive your lifestyle is busy. You spend your time traveling to different countries, spending time in meetings and then theirs the drinking.
It may be that you have a couple of glasses of wine in the evening to unwind, it maybe that you need to drink when your taking out clients, however there is a toll that alcohol takes on your body.
In this article we will look at the affects of alcohol on your body, other forms of toxins entering your body and why it is important to detoxify your body
Alcohol and sleep
You have stages of sleep. The first stage is called the rapid eye movement stage and the last phase is called non rapid eye movement phase and you go into a deep sleep.
Alcohol can help you sleep better, but the problem is that it sends you straight into the final stage of sleep which is actually good, but as the alcohol wears off you come out of deep sleep and back into stage one.
Stage one sleep is easier to wake up from and you may spend less time sleeping than what you need. You need to spend 6-7 hours in the final stage of sleep to feel refreshed.
However if you drink alcohol you may only spend 90 minutes in this stage of sleep and wake up feeling exhausted, which is going to be counter productive if you have a busy day for your business.
Alcohol and gut health
Alcohol can also affect your absorption of nutrients. This is because alcohol reduces the amount of digestive enzymes in our gut that we use to digest the food that we eat.
Alcohol and the liver
The liver is our largest organ in our body and one of the most important organs. Some of the functions of the liver include converting carbohydrates into energy, getting rid of waste in the body and helping to fight infections.
Here is how alcohol damages your Liver
Oxidation: The process that your liver goes through to remove alcohol from the body leaves free radicals in your body and these free radicals can damage liver cells.
Toxicity: The toxins that are released into the gut from drinking alcohol will find their way to the liver and cause damage to your Liver.
What our some of the other ways that toxins build up in your body?
Alcohol isn’t the only way that toxins build in our body. I will tell you some of the other key ways that your body builds up toxins in a second, but first I want to talk about what detoxification is.
What is detoxification and why do it?
Detoxification is the removal of toxins from your body. Your Liver is one of the main organs responsible for this procedure.
The reason you may detoxify your body is to get rid of bloating, improve your skin, help with weight loss, but more importantly improve your health.
When your liver is over worked you have excess toxins in your body and some of the symptoms can be
- Your abdominal area is bloated
- Discomfort or even pain in the upper abdominal area (This is where your liver is located)
- Excess belly fat otherwise known as a pot belly
- You may find it difficult digesting fatty foods
- You may have needed to have your gallbladder removed
- You may suffer from acid reflux/heart burn
- Excessive sweat and overheating of your body
- You may have liver spots, which are dark spots on your skin
- Poor skin, such as acne, itchy or even blotchy
- You may have put on weight that you can’t explain and even though you are restricting calorie intake you still cant lose weight
Other signs to watch out for are snoring, irritation from perfumes or after shaves, high cholesterol or triglycerides.
