This is why wheat is bad for you
Wheat is bad for you for many reasons. Their is a much greater awareness of gluten all of a sudden. This is due to the role that gluten in bread has on inhibiting your digestive system. For this reason their are many gluten free products being produced and sold.
This is a great thing and that extra awareness will improve lives, and its nice to see the food industry trying to act responsibly. However, this is not the only reason why wheat is bad for us. We have to also consider the impact that wheat has on our insulin levels as well.
If you look at the glycaemic index charts wheat products like rice, pasta and breads are some of the highest scoring foods on the chart. Lets not forget that high blood sugar over a prolonged period of time can have some serious health affects.
The constant release of insulin to counter the rise in elevated blood sugar levels can lead to insulin sensitivity and over time diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases. The government recommends that most of our calorie intake comes from grains, but is this right?
