The Downside of Diets For A Healthy Lifestyle

Dieting Pitfalls

Some diets are restrictive, which, by definition, makes them unsustainable for most people. This type of diet requires you to give up all the foods that you love and can take the pleasure out of life.

The feeling of deprivation caused by these strict diets can eventually lead to you binge eating the first opportunity you get and abandoning your diet.

Also, if you do succeed in losing weight with a restrictive diet because you were not able to do it eating the foods you love, you never developed the balance and moderation needed to sustain your weight loss.

The lack of balance that you have with your eating will cause you to put back on all the weight you lost and start the cycle of yo-yo dieting. Yo-yo dieting can wreak havoc on your metabolism and hinder your future weight loss goals.

It’s worth looking at other ways to help support your weight loss efforts.

Create a Supportive Environment For Your Health And Happiness

The environment you find yourself in can play a huge role in whether or not you can achieve a healthy weight.

It would be beneficial to set up the environment around you to be as conducive to removing as many temptations as possible.

This means that if your partner is eating unhealthy foods in front of you or constantly asking you to do things that break your new healthy habits, then you need to press how important it is to have their support and get them on board.

Write down your goals and place them in places that you can see all the time. Share a written copy of your goals with your closest friends.

Keep your workout clothes somewhere so that you can see them all the time.

Find people who have lost weight or try to join support groups. Taking the time to engage with like-minded people can help inspire you and give you the opportunity to learn new things from peers.

Use Social Media To Help You Achieve Habits For Better Health

The world of social media can have a positive influence on your lifestyle. Many social influencers or bloggers can help educate you and give you tips.

The fact that you are reading this article now is proof of that.

There are also many weight loss groups that you can join on Facebook and Linkedin to find other people in the exact same position as you.

If you are on Instagram, fill up your feed with as many uplifting messages as you can.

Improve Your Mental Strength With Positive Affirmations

What are positive affirmations?

Positive affirmations are powerful statements that help to rewire your mind and help change your self-beliefs. The goal is to send messages to your subconscious mind to reprogram your conscious mind.

These statements are designed to combat the negative thoughts that flood through you with positive statements to help reinforce your commitment to behaviour change.

The more you are able to quieten your negative thoughts and improve your inner dialogue, the more you can create a mindset that keeps you motivated, focused and committed no matter what problems you encounter.

Examples of positive affirmations?

  • “I am strong and capable of losing weight no matter what problems I face,”
  •  “I am committed improving my health, and I will overcome all obstacles in my way.”
  • “I am a strong and loving person and I deserve a healthy mind and body,”
  • “I choose to let go of stress and embrace peace,” can help us manage stress levels effectively, enabling better decision-making and healthy habits.
  • “I am capable of overcoming challenges,”
  • “I love and accept my body as it is.”
  • “I am confident in my ability to make healthy choices” becomes a catalyst for positive change.

Visualise Your Lifestyle Changes

What is visualisation?

Visualisation is one of the most powerful techniques for changing your habits. It involves using images in your mind that are picked up by your subconscious mind to be sent to your conscious mind.

Seeing yourself successfully achieving something difficult helps you to eventually believe that the goal you are striving for is possible.

How to visualise

You will need to find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. You can spend anywhere between ten minutes to an hour.

Start by seeing yourself at your ideal weight. You look good, you receive compliments, and you feel confident. Feel the emotions of what it’s like to have lost the weight.

It should excite you, it should make you smile, and you should feel a sense of euphoria as you sit in silence, visualising your achievement.

Visualisation is wider than just seeing the end result. You can also visualise yourself performing activities to improve your overall health.

Imagine yourself going for a run around your local park. Feel your heart beating in your chest, feel the heat radiating from your body, feel the sweat on your face tempered by a cool breeze.

Lastly, you can even use visualisation to see yourself overcome obstacles that may get in your way. You can visualise yourself coming back from holiday after putting on 3 kgs.

Watch yourself amending your goals and timelines and doubling down on overcoming this new setback.

The more detail you can go into with your imagery, the greater your chances of manifesting the outcome you desire. Try to use all your senses in your imagery so that it feels more real than watching TV.

At first, the pictures in your head will be vague, but as time goes on, you will develop greater clarity.

Things to include in your visualisation

  • Sounds – if you visualise yourself eating a healthy meal, imagine the sounds of you chewing, the sound of your knife and fork on the plate, street noises, etc.
  • Smells – How does the food smell? How does the room you are in smell? Can you smell cooking in your room?
  • Imagery – Are you looking from an internal angle or from outside of your body? How does your physique look? How do your clothes fit you? Are you wearing different types of clothes due to better self-confidence?
  • Kinaesthetic – How do your energy levels feel with your new weight, do your clothes feel loser on your body?

So there you have it, my top tips to help strengthen your resolve and improve your chances of losing weight. Going beyond eating healthy diets can help you develop a healthy mindset that can last for life.

Remember to focus on the power of your mind and use methods to reprogram your subconscious mind to increase your resilience.

This comprehensive guide of how to set your focus for successful weight loss, long-term well-being, health and happiness through lifestyle changes will change everything if you put them into practice.

Focus on these sustainable lifestyle changes. You will find it easier to achieve your goals and maintain your health.

Other things to consider prioritising are:

  • Regular physical activity
  • Quality sleep
  • Stress management
  • Building healthy habits
  • Nurturing a positive mindset
  • Track your progress
  • Celebrating all your achievements along the way.
  • All the best to you
