Visualisation is one of the most powerful techniques for changing your habits. It involves using images in your mind that are picked up by your subconscious mind to be sent to your conscious mind.

Seeing yourself successfully achieving something difficult helps you to eventually believe that the goal you are striving for is possible.

How to visualise

You will need to find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. You can spend anywhere between ten minutes to an hour.

Start by seeing yourself at your ideal weight. You look good, you receive compliments, and you feel confident. Feel the emotions of what it’s like to have lost the weight.

It should excite you, it should make you smile, and you should feel a sense of euphoria as you sit in silence, visualising your achievement.

Visualisation is wider than just seeing the end result. You can also visualise yourself performing activities to improve your overall health.

Imagine yourself going for a run around your local park. Feel your heart beating in your chest, feel the heat radiating from your body, feel the sweat on your face tempered by a cool breeze.

Lastly, you can even use visualisation to see yourself overcome obstacles that may get in your way. You can visualise yourself coming back from holiday after putting on 3 kgs. 

Watch yourself amending your goals and timelines and doubling down on overcoming this new setback.

The more detail you can go into with your imagery, the greater your chances of manifesting the outcome you desire. Try to use all your senses in your imagery so that it feels more real than watching TV.

At first, the pictures in your head will be vague, but as time goes on, you will develop greater clarity.

  • Sounds – if you visualise yourself eating a healthy meal, imagine the sounds of you chewing, the sound of your knife and fork on the plate, street noises, etc.
  • Smells – How does the food smell? How does the room you are in smell? Can you smell cooking in your room?
  • Imagery – Are you looking from an internal angle or from outside of your body? How does your physique look? How do your clothes fit you? Are you wearing different types of clothes due to better self-confidence?
  • Kinaesthetic – How do your energy levels feel with your new weight, do your clothes feel loser on your body?
